Lusaka to Chipata to Mfuwe"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>May 21, 2009<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We went into town early to catch the bus to [[Chipata, Zambia]].\u00a0 Chipata is on the way to Mfuwe and that is where are safari camp is located.\u00a0 We were supposed to leave at 8am, but the bus didn&#8217;t pull out until 11:45am.\u00a0 We waited for long because the bus had to sell a set number of tickets before it would leave.\u00a0 Additionally, I am finding that nothing is on time in Zambia.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_424\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-424\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-424\" title=\"village on the way to Chipata\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4697-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Village on the way to Chipata\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4697-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4697-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4697-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-424\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Village on the way to Chipata<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The bus finally got to Chipata at 8pm.\u00a0 It was a hellish bus ride for me.\u00a0 I was sick for much of the ride from a combination of: not eating enough the day before, motion sickness, and altitude sickness (Lusaka is 3.6x higher than State College).\u00a0 We stopped at several small villages on the way to drop people off and for restroom breaks.\u00a0 At one of the stops, I got out and dry heaved about six times;\u00a0 it felt good to do.\u00a0 I began thinking I was really hungry, but because I was so messed up from the jet lag, I could no longer sense if I was hungry.\u00a0 When I got back on the bus, I ate some apples with peanut butter, some granola bars, and crackers.\u00a0 I figured this food is either going to make me feel better or cause me to puke.\u00a0 I knew that at least if I puked, I would feel better for a little while.\u00a0 Fortunately, I was fine the rest of the\u00a0 bus ride.\u00a0 John also helped me find a seat in the back of the bus next to a window which really helped.\u00a0 It also served as an out in case I did throw up!<\/p>\n<p>During one of the stops, I attempted to use the restroom.\u00a0 I paid the equivalent of ten cents to use the toilet.\u00a0 I followed the signs and was let to this brick shack which contained a concrete floor with a hole in the ground.\u00a0 I realized at this moment that living in Zambia for the next two weeks will be exactly like camping.\u00a0 I made a mental note to get\u00a0 toilet paper and to keep it with me at all times from here on out.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_426\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-426\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-426\" title=\"toilet\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4696-300x168.jpg\" alt=\"Toilet in village\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4696-300x168.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4696-150x84.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4696-1024x576.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-426\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Toilet in village<\/p><\/div>\n<p>We watched some terrible movies on the bus ride.\u00a0\u00a0 They were Nigerian films.\u00a0 We watched Heritage of Sorrow 1 and 2.\u00a0 We also watched WWF wrestling for about four hours as well &#8212; I will never watch wrestling again&#8230;not even to make fun of it.\u00a0 We finished the trip out with some Jackie Chan movie.\u00a0 I hardly watched any of the movies.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_427\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-427\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-427\" title=\"eating with the swedes\" src=\"http:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4713-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"Eating with the Swedes\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4713-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4713-150x112.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4713-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.gergltd.com\/zambia\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/06\/IMG_4713.JPG 1600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-427\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Eating with the Swedes<\/p><\/div>\n<p>It was dark when we go to Chipata.\u00a0 On the bus, we met to girls from Sweden and they recommended a hotel to stay at in Chipata.\u00a0 So, we paired up with them and we all took a taxi to the hotel.\u00a0 Once we got their, I realized I had lost my cell phone.\u00a0 John and I went back to the bus station to try to find it.\u00a0 Thankfully, I found it wedged between my seat and the side of the bus.\u00a0 We then cabbed back to the hotel.\u00a0 On the way back, we stopped at a place to get me some food &#8212;
