May 29th – Lake Bangweulu in Samfya

Myself at Lake Bangweulu

I woke up at 8am.  Ruth made french toast for us for breakfast.

We had solicited our friend Winford to drive us to [[Samfya]], specifically [[Lake Bangweulu]].  Winford is Mr. Chiona’s brother.  It took us one hour to drive there in Winford’s truck; Ruth sat in front and John and I sat in the back.  Along the way to Samfya, we saw a broken down car and gave the folks a ride into Samfya.

We got the Lake Bangweulu around 11am.  The lake was just beautiful; nothing like I had ever seen before.  They say bangweulu means “where the water meets the sky.”  The lake contains hippos, water monitors, and various kinds of fish.   We ate some lunch, walked around, swam, and went for a boat ride.

We eventually left around 4:30pm.  After we got home, Ruth and John went for a sh0rt run and I grabbed a shower.  For dinner, we made potatoes and eggs.  John convinced Ruth to make no-bake cookies again!  We hung out for a little while and dinner and then went to bed.  We were pretty tired after being in the sun all day.
